Romans 8:17 “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
Everytime I read this verse, I literally get butterflies in my stomach. The first time I heard this verse was through my sister. One day, she was telling me how I was an heir of God.. I had no idea what that meant and boy am I glad I know what it is now. She told me how special it is and I would love to share it with you! I am going to display the passage that came before this verse because it is important on how one becomes an heir of God!
“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”
Now, recently I have literally become obsessed with the Royal Newlyweds! For multiple reasons, some being: I have been to Europe so I feel a connection to their Monarchy, the couple got engaged in Kenya so I feel connected their, and I watched the most memorable day of their lives on t.v.(eh em at 5a.m)!
More importantly however, a great reason why I like these royals is that their Monarchy is a great example of a long list of heirs! What did Prince William have to do to be in line for Kingship?! NOTHING! He was a grandchild of the Queen! He is entitled to become the most righteous person in Britain because he was a child of royalty! Likewise, the Lord is adopting us as children through his spirit if we JUST believe in Him. This is the only work we have to do is believe who Jesus is and we will become co-heirs with Christ/adopted children of God. Can we just think real quickly about how crazy these two titles are?!?! We are heirs of the one who holds all authority of earth! And this is what the word of the Lord says! AWESOME!... take that Prince William! I am an heir too!
Titus 3 also explains further about being an heir. It is a great book that I was able to indulge in through this blog! In this chapter Paul explains how not only do we hold the title of being an heir but we also have hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for our sins on the cross! There is nothing greater than this joy and nothing sweeter than His redemption!
Thanks for reading! =)
